Thousands of talented artists fight for recognition, and those who do turn out know that success is not easy, much less making a living from their art. Today we meet with the digital artist and illustrator Santiago Legarreta, founder and creator of DesingGeo, who over time has managed to develop his own unique style that attracted the attention of brands such as Bomberg, Parmigiani Fleurier, Dilusso Beverly Hills and MCT Watches. .
We invite you to discover a little more about DesignGeo in the following interview!
How did the name DesignGeo come about?
Back in 2014 I had decided that I wanted to start sharing my creations on social networks, and that's how I decided to choose a name that represented what I was going to start doing at that time, designing geometric illustrations. This is how the name DesignGeo came about, which is the union of Design and the “geometric” style.
How is the creative process and where do you get inspiration to develop your illustrations?
As I always say, inspiration is everywhere. It does not matter if I’m listening to music, reading a book, watching a movie or walking through a city in the world, I am lucky to be able to find ideas and project them in my mind to later transform them into reality.
The creative process usually begins when I put these ideas down on paper and begin to think about how or what resources I need to develop them. Once I have the roadmap ready, I sit down in front of my computer and from different design programs I start to bring it to life.
Why did you choose luxury as one of the main themes to create interior decoration?
Since I started, it was always clear to me that I wanted to do something that I liked. In this way, I never took everything as work and that was what allowed me to enjoy and continue to enjoy the process. I chose luxury as one of the main themes because it is something that I always liked, exotic cars, private planes, exclusive watches, among so many other things. So, I seek to carry out designs that have these types of objects, and I try to combine them with other things thus creating unique illustrations that represent an exclusive lifestyle.
As I usually say, what I do is the art of designing luxury and desire, in exclusive pieces.
What is the name of the style you use to carry out your creations?
At the beginning, all my illustrations were framed within a style that is a mixture of Pop Art and Cubism. I created objects of popular culture, characters, animals, among other things, with a geometric style, from triangles.
In the last months, I decided to venture into a new, more surrealist style with photographic compositions, but following the same theme, luxury and lifestyle.
I really enjoy setting new challenges and exploring new techniques and styles, thus giving my work more versatility.
With which brands did you have the opportunity to collaborate?
I was lucky enough to create designs for major watch brands such as Bomberg, Parmigiani Fleurier and MCT Watches. I also had the chance to collaborate with Dilusso Beverly Hills in creating a painting that was part of a limited-edition surprise product.
Having the opportunity to collaborate with brands is one of the things that I enjoy the most about my job and I hope that as time goes by, new opportunities will arise!
Would you like to work with a brand in any particular field?
The reality is that I don't have a brand that I dream of working with, and I am always open to new opportunities and challenges. I had the opportunity to not only collaborate with brands but also celebrities, and even create a custom piece for soccer star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Definitely, if there is something that I love and enjoy about my work, it is these great possibilities, and I work every day to improve and, in this way, continue to open new doors in the future!
